The Arkansas River in Chafee County has one of the best whitewater parks in the state and also contains Browns Canyon, which is the busiest whitewater rafting run in the U.S. The river is, in part, an example of how the recreational economy can protect rivers, and also a symbol of how recreation can cause the overuse of rivers.

We enjoy, support, and continue to monitor activities on the Arkansas River, including in downtown Salida, Colorado.
