Colorado Rivers Update: We’re are in the Middle of every Dam Fight in Colorado!
Hi Friends of Colorado’s Rivers,
The Colorado Sun, which is one of the best Colorado publications posting stories about water and river protection, had a comprehensive story this Sunday about all the “dam” threats in the state. Our organizations — Save The World’s Rivers, Save The Poudre, and our Save The Colorado program — are in the middle of every dam fight in this story.
We are fighting to protect almost every river in the state, and we are engaged in every proposed river-destruction project discussed in this article, as well as a couple more that aren’t discussed. As the Colorado Sun stated,
“Fort Collins [and nearly every other dam proponent] also faces years more political and legal opposition from defenders of the Poudre, like Gary Wockner and his Save the Poudre/Save the Colorado advocacy and litigation network.”
You can read the story here.
With our tiny budget, fearless attitude, aggressive legal team, and wild passion for keeping rivers alive, we are causing nearly every dam builder in the state to adjust their course or rethink their dam plans.
As population growth surges and droughts intensify, the pressure on Colorado’s rivers is increasing every year. We contend that alternatives to diverting rivers and building dams must be the first choice, not the last resort. Water conservation and efficiency, sharing water with farmers, and growth management are smarter, faster, cheaper, and more sustainable than the reckless path of river destruction and dam building that the vast majority of Colorado’s cities are proposing.
Love us or hate us, WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE in the future of Colorado’s rivers.
