City of Boulder’s Attempt to Block Public Dissent is Egregious, Radical
Boulder, CO: Save The World’s Rivers is speaking out today against the City of Boulder for attempting to block public dissent against the CU-South dam and development scheme. Boulder Reporting Lab reports that the City is asking a state district court judge to “sanction” citizens who filed a lawsuit against the City, and to require that the citizens pay the City’s $46,000 attorneys fees.
The story is reported here: https://boulderreportinglab.org/2025/07/08/boulder-ups-the-ante-in-lawsuit-over-cu-south-flood-project-citing-vexatious-tactics/
While Save The World’s Rivers is not involved in this lawsuit, the organization has taken an adversarial stance against the CU-South dam project because its environmental impacts don’t appear to justify the cost nor do they achieve so-called “flood control” for surrounding neighborhoods.
“The irony of this self-proclaimed ‘progressive’ community taking a page out of a radical, egregious playbook is over the top,” said Gary Wockner, director of Save The World’s Rivers. “Every citizen, and every citizens group, deserves their day in court, and an appeal, if so desired, which is enshrined in the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guaranteeing ‘due process.'”
“The precedent of the City’s request, even if it is not granted by the judge, is extremely damaging to our democracy and to the public trust,” continued Wockner, whose group sometimes files lawsuits to stop dams and protect rivers in Colorado.
