MEKONG RIVER, THAILAND
In 2016, Gary Wockner traveled to northern Thailand, on behalf of Global Greengrants Fund, to learn and write a story about local dam-fighting efforts on the Mekong River. The “Mekong School for Local Knowledge” has been active in the region for years, and helps bring attention to the threats of dams on the Mekong River. Gary’s story, “The Mekong River Is Not For Sale,” was published Boulder Weekly, The New Internationalist, and TckTckTck.

A few years later, Gary helped connect the School to become an affiliate of the Waterkeeper Alliance. Gary stays in contact with, and helps to support, groups fighting dams and protecting the Mekong River in Thailand and Cambodia.
