In 2018, Gary Wockner traveled to the Whanganui River in New Zealand to learn and write about how the river because the first in the world to obtain “Personhood Status”. Gary’s story appeared in International Rivers and Waterkeeper Magazine, here, “I Am The River, The River Is Me“.

Save The World’s Rivers has been inspired by the “Rights of Nature” work created on the Whanganui, which is now a main program area of our organization.
